Like any collectible community, Sylvanian Families has its own vocabulary that collectors use to describe certain aspects of the products.

  1. Calico Critters - Calico Critters are exactly the same product as Sylvanian Families. The only difference lies in packaging and character names. It was adopted in North America after the name "Sylvanian Families" could no longer be used.
  2. CC - Short for Calico Critters. It seems anyone can edit this page!
  3. JP - Short for Japanese.
  4. Epoch - Describes figures and accessories that are from the Japanese product line.
  5. Flair - Describes figures and accesssories from the Flair product line in the United Kingdom.
  6. Tomy - Describes figures and accessories distributed by Tomy in the United Kingdom and the United States.
  7. Flat Handed - Describes figures that have flat hands, like Japanese figures or early-released Tomy figures.
  8. Open Handed - Describes figures that have a thumb allowing them to hold items like later-released Tomy figures, Flair figures, or Calico Critters figures.
  9. Flocking - The soft coat on the outside of a figure.
  10. Rub - A place on a figure that has had its flocking removed.
